Já li o Conversations With Friends e o Normal People (podem ler as minhas reviews AQUI e AQUI) da Sally Rooney, por isso, quando soube que ela iria lançar um novo livro, tinha de o ler. O livro chama-se 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' e conta a história de quatro personagens diferentes: Alice, Felix, Eileen e Simon. Como leitores, seguimos as personagens durante os seus altos e baixos, incluindo a sua amizade e as relações entre eles. Como já é habitual da Rooney, vocês não vão gostar nada destas personagens. Durante a história, elas vão irritar-vos, não vão empatizar de todo com elas, e, por vezes, vão mesmo detestá-las. Gostei bastante da forma como o livro está escrito. Durante o romance, aparecem alguns emails que as personagens trocam entre si que nos ajudam a compreender melhor a história. É um livro que entretém, mas pareceu-me uma versão mais matura do Conversations With Friends, o que não é necessariamente uma coisa boa. Disto isto, acho que a Sally Rooney é um pouco overrated. Gostei bastante do seu primeiro livro e a adaptação do Normal People para a televisão acho que está genial, mas não acho que os seus livros sejam impactantes. Não consigo perceber todo este hype. Claro que muito provavelmente irei ler os seus próximos livros, mas se estiverem à procura de um livro interessante para ler, este livro não seria a minha primeira escolha.
I already read Conversations with Friends and Normal People (you can read my review HERE and HERE) by Sally Rooney, so when I discovered that she was launching another book I had to read it. The book is called 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' and it tells the story of four different people: Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon. We follow these characters through the ups and downs of their life including their friendship and relationship with each other. As Rooney usually does in her novels, you will not like these characters. They will annoy you, you will not emphasise with them, and a lot of times you will dislike them. I really like the way this story is written. Between the story, there are emails that the characters send to each other that really help you understand the story. It's a very entertaining book but felt like it was a mature version of Conversations With Friends. With that being said, I think Sally Rooney is a bit overrated. I did enjoy her first book and the tv adaption of Normal People is amazing, but I feel like her books are not very impactful, they don't really stand out to me. I really don't understand how she got all this hype. I will probably still read her next books, but if you're looking for an interesting book to read, this wouldn't be my first choice.
