It's the first time I bring a skincare brand to the 'Get To Know The Brand' post but I really had to show you this brand because I was very excited when I found out about it. It's called Miaskin and it's the newest Portuguese skincare brand. It's cruelty-free, vegan and genderless. I talked to the founder so you can know the brand a bit better and know everything that it's behind it.

How did you get the idea to create a skincare brand?

It was a set of factors but I would say that the starting point was wanting to meet a personal need of mine combined with the desire to simplify. I reached a point in my life where I wanted to make more conscious and healthier choices, change some habits and routines, simplify. I started with food and almost right away I started feeling so much better, lighter, and I wanted to bring that into other types of body care - cosmetics and skincare. I started looking for brands and products that I identified with. That were made with natural and biological ingredients. Obviously, the mission and values of the brand are important, but I also like to identify with the brand's aesthetic...there's when I came across a huge blank. There were no brands/products in Portugal that I could identify with fully. So that was it. I started thinking of Miaskin, a line of practical and simple products to make our routine easier with a vegan and organic formula that was cruelty-free and genderless.

For a while now that I try to only use cruelty-free products. When you decided to create the brand, did you know right away that you wanted it to be cruelty-free with natural ingredients?

Yes, that was the starting point, the hunt for the natural ingredients lined with my values. The brand had to be cruelty-free, vegan, genderless, and as sustainable as possible.

Why these two products that are now available should be part of everyone's skincare routine?

I looked for ingredients that fight what I believe are the problems people have with their skin - oiliness, lack of hydration...I wanted to create products that were good for everyone and for all skin types. That were able to make us feel good about ourselves. It was really important to be a genderless brand.

Estão a planear lançar outros produtos? Are you planning on launching new products?

Yes, we started with the products we feel should be part of everyone's daily routine - serum and cream - but the idea is to bring more essentials like a cleansing product and exfoliator.

I know the brand it's just a baby but where do you see Miaskin in five years?

I really want the brand to reach more people and simplify their routine. I want it to be the food for skin that bring us calm and transport us into nature, always being true to our values. I hope that in 5 years Miaskin is all grown up, that makes part of a lot of lives and who knows, maybe get into the next step to avoid waste and be in a physical place with a refill system.

Is there such a thing as a sustainable fashion influencer? If there is, I want to be one when I grow up. Actually, I think I'm getting there. I wear something vintage/second-hand almost every day, and the vintage clothes are the majority in my wardrobe. And when I shop something new I always try to be from a brand with ethical values. However, as influencers, we have to work with brands. Obviously, we can work just with brands we identify with and that's exactly what I do, but how relatable is that since those are usually expensive brands? Through this job I get a few clothes, but will I buy those clothes if they weren't gifted to me? Of course, there are always vintage stores that are way more affordable, but those pieces our followers won't be able to find and buy exactly the same. Those are unique pieces which is amazing, but on the other side, you can't buy them. I get so many messages asking where a certain piece is from and I always have to reply "sorry, it's vintage" or "sorry, it's from an older collection". I know I don't have to apologize but the influencer that lives inside of me feels like she has to. How relatable are these sustainable fashion influencers? If we shift perspectives and I get on the receiving end of the content, I think they can be very relatable. Actually, I'm sick of seeing hauls of non-ethical brands from influencers that get tones of clothes that will never wear properly. So, yeah, I think sustainable fashion influencers exist, hopefully, I'm one of them. And no, I don't want to see your Shein haul.

Here we go!

Having this blog for quite some years now, you can totally see the evolution of my style, and I thought it would be interesting to look back at some older outfits and see if it's something I would still wear nowadays or if it's totally not my style. I'm in a phase where I feel I found my style, so I think it's going to be really funny to see older outfits and reflect on them. Here we go!

This is an outfit from last year, and I would wear it exactly like this. I love the layering, I love the cap complementing the outfit, I love the jeans, you got it. I really have to wear this again, I like it a lot, it's very me.

This outfit is also from 2020, and even though I like it a lot and still have all the pieces in my wardrobe, I think I would change just one thing. Cropped trousers are not really my vibe anymore, I think they work with certain outfits, but in this case, I would go with longer jeans, but I really like everything else.

Let's go to 2019, and I don't think I would wear this outfit. I like the pieces, but these are those kinds of pieces that I like but are not very my style. These jeans I still have and wear them a lot, but everything else is not really my vibe right now.

This outfit is also from 2019 but against the last one, I would totally wear it. I love suits, and this outfit is very me. Long and wide-leg trousers, black and classic blazer, sneakers to make it a bit more casual, I love it.

This outfit I wore in 2018 and I really like it. I don't wear dresses that often but I would definitely wear this outfit again. The pieces are quite simple and the boots (that I still have and love) make the whole outfit.

Ainda me lembro desta saia e, olhando agora, o tecido não tinha qualidade nenhuma.

Even though I like the concept of this outfit, I wouldn't wear it. It's also from 2018 and back then I really didn't pay attention to the quality of the clothes. I still remember this skirt and looking back, the fabric had very poor quality.

This is the last outfit because anything older than this I would probably not wear, but this outfit I like a lot. It's from 2018 and I think I still have all these pieces. I used to wear a lot of baker boy hats, right now I would probably wear it with a baseball cap instead, but I love it anyway.

O livro chama-se 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' e conta a história de quatro personagens diferentes: Alice, Felix, Eileen e Simon.

I already read Conversations with Friends and Normal People (you can read my review HERE and HERE) by Sally Rooney, so when I discovered that she was launching another book I had to read it. The book is called 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' and it tells the story of four different people: Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon. We follow these characters through the ups and downs of their life including their friendship and relationship with each other. As Rooney usually does in her novels, you will not like these characters. They will annoy you, you will not emphasise with them, and a lot of times you will dislike them. I really like the way this story is written. Between the story, there are emails that the characters send to each other that really help you understand the story. It's a very entertaining book but felt like it was a mature version of Conversations With Friends. With that being said, I think Sally Rooney is a bit overrated. I did enjoy her first book and the tv adaption of Normal People is amazing, but I feel like her books are not very impactful, they don't really stand out to me. I really don't understand how she got all this hype. I will probably still read her next books, but if you're looking for an interesting book to read, this wouldn't be my first choice.

"And we hate people for making mistakes so much more than we love them for doing good that the easiest way to live is to do nothing, say nothing, and love no one."

Quem consegue ficar indiferente à letra 'Who Run The World: Girls!".

A few days ago, I went to the cinema to watch After (don't even ask) and it got me thinking. Until when are we going to keep romanticizing toxic relationships? I went with some friends and we are all twenty-something girls that can understand that movies portraits a very unhealthy relationship but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of teenagers watching that movie (the main target of this movie) and thinking that's the kind of relationship they want. A boy who's so jealous and possessive that could only mean he loves his girlfriend way too much, and a girl who can't stand for herself and live her life. I really believe the things we consume as young kids (the tv shows, the movies, the music, etc) can shape the people we become, and these kinds of movies are clearly sending the wrong message. As a young girl, I listen to a lot of music made by powerful women like Beyoncé or Rihanna, and I really think those songs or tv shows I watched back then helped me be the girl I am today. I mean, there's nothing more female-empowered than the lyrics to 'Run The World: Girls". Obviously, my generation also had its dose of toxic relationships in the cinema (*cough* Bella and Edward *cough*), but we're always evolving and I think cinema should follow that evolution as well. It's just my opinion, let me know what you think about it.

As a freelancer, I'm always on the hunt for the best cafés to work from here in Porto. I don't want to sound cocky but I think this is the perfect list. I've been wanting to do this blog post for a while now but I really wanted to only share with you the best of the best. These are very quiet cafés where you can work from/study and drink good coffee at the same time. They're all around downtown so they're all really easy to find. I hope you find this list helpful.

The beauty related posts are quite rare over here so you know that when they show up it's because I really love the products I'm talking about. I've been trying quite some new products, and I thought it would be interesting to share them with you. As you know, they're all cruelty-free, something very important to me, and they have been amazing to my skin/hair.

Gisou is already a regular over here. Their Honey Infused Oil is one of the best things that has ever touch my hair, but I've been using their hair mask lately and it's amazing. Usually, I never like my hair after washing it, I always have to style it, but since I started using this mask, I actually like my natural hair. It makes a huge difference.

Vitamine E is very beneficial for the skin if you live in a very polluted city and with a lot of Sun, it really helps to protect the skin from that kind of aggressions. I use this product in the morning, before moisturizer, and I feel like it has been really good for my skin.

I've heard about hyaluronic acid quite a lot and how great it is, so I decided to add it to my skincare routine. Honestly, I don't think I will ever stop using it, I highly recommend it. I apply it in the morning and in the evening, and my skin never looked better. This one from The Ordinary is a bit different because it has B5 to help hydrate.

I used to use a product by Etat Pur to take off my makeup and I really liked it, but I finished it and decided to try something different. This butter is amazing. It cleanses the skin very well and even waterproof makeup takes off perfectly.

Durante imenso tempo, sapatilhas pretas eram o meu go-to. Comprei as Reebok Classics e adoro-as.

For the longest time that I've been an advocate for black sneakers. I have a pair of black Converses and a pair of black Old Skoll Vans (that literally have a hole since I wear them all the time) that I rotate and wear a lot. For a while that I've been thinking about adding a pair of white ones, and I'm so glad I did. I never thought they would fit into my style so well. I went for the Reebok Classics and I'm in love. They look amazing peeking under some long trousers, or just like this with shorter bottoms and white socks. I know it's not very usual for me to be writing a blog post about a piece of clothing/footwear, usually, I write about something more serious, but once in a while, there are certain pieces that we like so much that we feel like writing a love letter to them and dedicate them a post.

You already know that once in a while you'll find some books by Saramago in here. I'm still trying to read all of these books and this time I read 'Country of Sin'. It tells the story of a woman who, after losing her husband, suffers with her health, and struggles to keep the family farm and take care of her two kids. As readers, we follow her life after what happens to her and everyone around her. It's a very simple story, and it's not Saramago as his best. In fact, this was his first novel, he wrote it when he was only 24, and, after reading so many of his other books, you can easily tell he was very young when he wrote it. However, it's an entertaining book and where you can already find some irony and critic, something that became very characteristic of this writer. With that being said, it's not a bad book. Actually, as a fan of Saramago, it's very interesting to realize how Saramago started his journey in the literature world. If you never read anything by him, I advise to starting with something from this list.

Eu adoro esta altura do ano e sinto-me sempre super inspirada.

With the arrival of a new season comes several new outfits possibilities. I love this time of the year, and I always feel very inspired. As you know, I don't believe in updating your wardrobe every season but I have to admit that it's fun to add new pieces to mix with our old times' favourites. This outfit is the perfect example: same old shirt and a tank top with my new skirt from Na-kd that gave me new ways to pair them. But today I'm going to share what I'll be wearing this Autumn.

Jumpers over my shoulders

Yeah, it's a trend, but some trends I like and this one I love. It can be a good way to add a bit of colour to a neutral outfit, just a way to add a fun detail to a minimalist outfit, but it can also be very practical because you can always put the jumper on in case it gets cold.

Mini Skirts With Sneakers And Boots

I don't know why but I think I wear skirts more often during Autumn than during the warmer months. For now, I'll be wearing them with sneakers and white socks, but once it gets colder I love to wear skirts with over-the-knee boots.

Suits And Blazers

Autumn is the season of the blazer. No doubt. They're not too warm neither too cold so they're perfect for this time of the year. I really love my blazers but I would love to add another one to my collection to get the whole suit (I already have the matching pants) something that I also love wearing.

If you live under a rock you probably didn't notice but if you're a regular human being I'm pretty sure you noticed that Instagram (and a few other apps) were down for hours last Monday. Panic, horror, despair. What are we going to do now without a scroll to do when we're bored? I found myself several times checking the app even knowing the app was down. Crazy how addicted we are. But these eight hours without these apps made me wonder: how different would my life be without Instagram? Would it be better or worst? Would I have more time for myself or would I lost an outlet to create content and inspire myself that I like so much? To be honest, I don't think it would be much different. First, because the human being has an impressive way to adapt and I'm pretty sure there would be a new app straight away to substitute Instagram. And second, even though it's a source of income for me, it wouldn't be that different because this blog is the main reason why I create content. I really like Instagram and it's definitely a faster way to share content with you, but most times I do it to encourage you to visit my blog. So I'm pretty sure it would be strange at first, what app would I check as soon as I wake up (no, I'm not proud of this)? But I'm pretty we all would be fine and move on pretty quickly. But let me know, how do you think would be your life without Instagram? Do you use it only for fun or is it also your business?

Long time, no see!

Long time, no see! It has been a while since I did a post with my favourite cafés in Porto but the truth is that with the pandemic there were no new cafés opening. However, life is, finally, back to normal and there are new cafés popping. The Orthodox is the newest café in town and it's already one of my favourites. It's very cosy, the coffee is amazing, and the staff is very friendly. To know more about it, just keep scrolling.

WHERE: Rua de Miguel Bombarda 418, Porto

I still haven't tried the lunch option (there's a menu for 6€) but it's the perfect place to have breakfast/brunch. There's a breakfast menu (the one you can see in the photos) with bread, butter, bacon, potatoes and two eggs, but there are also other options like oatmeal and a lot of different muffins/cakes. The cappuccino is also very good.

Both lunch and breakfast menus are 6€ with no drinks. I would say that for one person is around 10-12€.

Digam-me se já conheciam, adorava saber. / Let me know if you already knew about it, I would love to know.
