If you're not an influencer/freelancer this post, probably, doesn't say much to you, but deep down I think it really represents my country and I believe it's something that happens in other areas as well. It's a topic I talk about a lot with other influencers, and I really think everyone should be talking about it because what has been going on has to stop. Everyone knows that Instagram campaigns are our main source of income and it's something I really enjoy doing, but I can't help but notice a huge difference between working with Portuguese brands/agencies and international ones. Portuguese brands: crazy briefings, captions are already written totally missing our tone of voice, constant pressure to post, late payments and dates are barely respected. International brands: creative freedom to create the content along with our aesthetic, schedules are always on point, and there's a lot of respect for our work. This might not be the rule here in Portugal but, unfortunately, it's my experience. I can say that I never had a positive experience while working with a Portuguese brand/agency. A while ago, in the space of a week, I had two campaigns to post: one for an international brand and the other for a Portuguese one. The international one was the first one I posted and I was already paid, the Portuguese one, well... I think you know the answer. It's enough that most of the time they want our content in exchange for nothing, but this is almost even worst. I know that it might sound like a first-world problem, but it's something I really had to talk about and I believe that if we come together this will happen less and less. So share this post, comment, and let me know if you had positive experiences, but let's put a stop to this once and for all.

As the big fan of Sofia Coppola that I am, a couple of years ago, I watched the movie she directed based on this book, The Virgin Suicides. However, I started getting very curious only recently about this book, and when I saw this gorgeous cover (I know, I know, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover but sometimes we do) in a bookshop in London, I had to bring it with me. It's a very unusual story. It tells the story of the Lisbon sisters, five girls who live in a claustrophobic household, full of restricted rules and within the space of two years, all girls are dead, by suicide. I know it's bizarre to say you enjoyed a book about suicide, but it ends up being about so many other things. What I enjoyed the most about this book was the way it was written. We never know much about the sisters, because the story is told through other characters, some boys who were in the neighbourhood that were obsessed with them and their lives. So, basically, the Lisbon sisters are a true mystery for the reader, and I loved that. It's tragic and sad, but beautiful at the same time. I really want to read more from this author.

You just need to do a quick research on Google to understand how important it is to have a consistent skincare routine for your skin, however, today I want to talk about how important a skincare routine can be for our well-being, at least, for me, it's very important. Taking a few moments to myself, either doing my skincare routine after a bath or switching off my phone and reading for a few hours, it's very important to me and something that hugely influences my mental health. The other day, I share on my Instagram one of my favourite self-care routines and asked you if it's also something you like to do and that you think it's important. Here are some of your answers.

A lot! Taking time (even if it's only for a couple of minutes) to take care of us!

"Limpar e arrumar o quarto!"
Clean and tie up my room.

I love to take some time to watch trashy tv.

"Fazer exercício-físico, muito importante."
Exercise, very important.

Even though I live with my boyfriend, it's very important to me to have alone time at home and do my stuff.

Going on a while and listening to a podcast it's a very important self-care routine to me and I try to do it every single day.

Right, when I wake up, in the morning, meditating for at least 15 minutes it's something I have to do.

Apenas o nosso ego. Mas gostava de saber a vossa opinião? Acham que existe o ego digital?

The other day, while I was scrolling through Instagram, I saw an expression that I found very interesting and got me thinking: digital ego. This word appeared because an influencer that I really like following was complaining about the low numbers she's getting in her posts (Instagram, for real, what's going on?) and how her "digital ego" was suffering from that. This got me thinking because is really our digital ego that suffers, or just our ego? On the one hand, I can understand this word because we really create new digital personas on social media. Of course, most of us like to show what we really are, but, most times, we just show a part of us. Who follows me on Instagram might think that I'm always at the beach, or at restaurants, or cafés, but I also spend a lot of time working, and it's something I don't show as much. It's my digital persona, what I decide to show and share, that's also part of me, but not me completely. But when we spend so much time on social media and it becomes part of our routine, I don't really believe in the digital ego. If getting low numbers of anything else affects our state of mind, our mood, or our will to keep creating content, then it's our real ego that suffers. If affects your "real life" in some way, then it's your ego. Just your ego. But I would love to know your opinion. Do you think there's such a thing as a digital ego?

Falo do 'Sorrow and Bliss' da Meg Mason.

Do you remember my trip to London? I obviously couldn't go there and not bring some books with me; this one has a quite funny story. I was at the book shop looking at all the books when the salesmen showed me this book and told me it was the best book he has ever read, of course, this was enough for me to bring the book with me. I´m talking about 'Sorrow and Bliss' by Meg Mason. It tells the story of Martha, a woman who knows there's something wrong with her but she doesn't know exactly what it is. It's pretty hard to talk about this book without giving all the story away, but I'm going to do my best. At its core, this book is about mental illness. Martha suffers from a mental illness (that she ends up being diagnosed with, but we, as readers, never find out what it is) and the effect it can have on other people's life. But it's also a love story.  And it's sad, but funny when it has to be. It's heartbreaking, but also heartwarming. It has been a while since I was so invested in fictional characters, but it feels really good. Turns out the guy at the book store was totally right, I loved this book.

"Everything is broken and messed up and completely fine. That is what life is. It's only the ratios that change. Usually on their own. As soon as you think that's it, it's going to be like this forever, they change again."

If in 1988 Patti Smith sang "the people have the power" and she was totally right about it, I think now, in 2022, never made more sense. We have so much power in our hands, and sometimes we don't even realize it. If before fashion trends were set through fashion magazines, nowadays we are the ones doing it through Instagram. If before artists reached the top charts through MTV, nowadays we are the ones doing it through TikTok. If before we had to wait for a newspaper to get the latest news, nowadays they are spread in seconds through Twitter. It's insane to think about it, but we have these audiences that are spread all over the world and that's fucking powerful. We are all connected. I came to this conclusion when, a few days ago, I posted on my Instagram Stories that I always looking for a ticket for Primavera Sound and in a matter of minutes I had so many people sending me a message telling me that they were selling a ticket or knew someone that was. If it worked with such a small thing as a festival ticket (that was sold out btw), it can work for bigger things as well. We are all interlocked, and we have to take advantage of that. I really try to share my thoughts on some topics like slow-fashion or even feminism, but that just made me realize that I want to connect even more with you. So you know what to do, go to my Instagram Stories because I'm probably opening a box to discuss this subject with you.

I have already shared these photos on my Instagram, but I liked them so much that I really had to share them here as well. I'm not going to talk that much about this subject because the photos already share the message exactly how I wanted, but I take the chance to tell you that I'm opening a box on my Instagram (something I've been loving to do) so we can talk about this subject. And, of course, you can also leave your opinion in the comments below. Let me know what you think about the photos and the subject.

I just opened Instagram and the first Story I watched was about an influencer doing a procedure at a clinic to define her abs. I was already thinking about writing this post, but after seeing that content I really had to spill it all out. Luckily, I'm already at an age that makes me realize I don't want to be that kind of person or be the one who shares that kind of content, but I can't help but wonder: am I doing a bad job as an influencer when I don't share that kind of content. Do I really have to go every single week to the hairdresser, hair removal, beauty salons, clinics, etc, in order to be a good influencer? It's shocking how this pressure to be perfect is always surrounding us. And I'm not talking only about influencers, I think any woman feels this from time to time. But as an influencer, I want to share with my audience that it doesn't have to be that way. We don't need to always be perfect. We can have flaws. We can wear sandals, even if we missed a Pedi. We can wear shorts, even if we have a bit (or a bunch) of hair on our legs. Mainly, we have to feel comfortable with ourselves whatever that means and forget about all these things people try to "sell" us on social media. I will never be the kind of girl that every week gets a new mani, but I'm also totally okay with that.
