As you know, I don't usually review poetry books. I don't read them frequently, so I don't feel like I know enough to create some kind of review apart from I like it or not. However, I enjoyed this book so much that I really had to say something about it. The book I'm talking about is 'Dores de Crescimento' by Inês Komakino. It's her first book, it was written between her 13 and 24 years old, and it's divided into four sections. The poems talk about love, depression, self-discovery, and you really see Inês growing and evolving throughout the poems. I felt like I read her soul. The poems are so beautiful, and maybe because we're the same age, I related to a lot of them. We all have been through adolescence, we all have been through those first steps into the adult life, and I'm sure you will relate to them as well. It's a very beautiful book, and I was so into it that I read it from front to back in just a few hours. I also have to mention the illustrations by Inês Isaías that are equally beautiful. You can buy the book at Contracapa HERE, but it's only in Portuguese. I can't wait to read more books by Inês.

Here in Portugal, we're currently in lockdown so we're always at home, and I'm always on the hunt for something new to do. The movies ran out, tv shows the same thing, and, honestly, sometimes I get tired of always looking into a screen. That's why I love DIYs. During the last lockdown I decided to do some beaded necklaces, but this time, since I'm at a new house, I decided to create some pieces to decorate the house. So, today's DIY is these small vases you can use to decorate your house and put some flowers in. I loved doing it and found it very therapeutic.

What You'll Need

Argila/Clay (comprei a minha na Fnac / I got mine at Fnac)

Água/Water

Faca/Knife

The Steps

The first step is to take a big block of your clay.

Then with your hands, you will mould the clay into a cylindric shape.

Once you get the length and width that you want, you just have to create the arch, and with the help of the knife cut off the edges to make sure it stands up and create the hole in the middle.

Then just wet your fingers with the water and pass them through the surface to make it softer, and let it dry for 24 hours at least.

The Video

It might be easier to actually see it, so I will leave you the video I watched to create these vases. You can watch it HERE.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw that last Saturday I launched a new project, and, obviously, I had to talk about it here on the blog. For a while now that I wanted to do something related to books, and a few weeks ago I had the idea to create Contracapa. Contracapa is a platform to share and sell books by independent writers. I also want to incorporate art, and I have some amazing designs coming your away. The first book is online and available for shopping (you can buy it HERE). It's a book that I loved, and it makes me really happy that it's the first one on my platform (actually, the review will be on the blog this week).

I don't know if you can tell, but I'm really excited about this, and I cannot wait to share everything with you. Don't forget to follow on Instagram (@contracapa.books), and, even though is not 100% ready yet, you can also check the website HERE. If you have any questions, leave them on the comments below that I'll reply to everything.

Cinco estrelas!

I've heard so many good things about this book that I decided to give a go, and I'm so glad I did it because I absolutely loved it. 'Where the Crawdads Sing' by Delia Owens is a real page-turner. The story is about Kya, a young girl who lives alone in the Marsh after being abandoned by her whole family. She's wild and learns how to be self-sufficient, but when the popular Chase Andrews is found dead, she becomes a suspect. So just like the last book I shared with you, it's a story that goes back and forth in time. In one hand there's her story of survival when she was young before the dead of Chase, and on the other, it's her trial after his death. But there's so much more to this book than that. It has a lot of things I enjoy reading about. It has a good main character who we start to empathise with, murder mystery and criminal investigation, romance, and a very good atmosphere. Nature really is the secondary character in this book, and I loved that. I also have to mention the writing. It's so beautifully written, and it really feels like you're there. Everything feels very delicate, almost like poetry, and the ending. Oh my, the ending. I really loved the story, but the ending blew my mind. I really wasn't expecting that, and it has been ages since a book surprised me like this. So yeah, I highly recommend it. Five stars!

Is it just me or Instagram has been very heavy lately? I know we're going through some crazy times and this situation is far from being normal, but do we really have to unload all our frustrations on Instagram? I use Instagram as an escape, to see beautiful things, and to be inspired, but now I only see negativity, influencers policing other influencers and just very negative thoughts. I open my Instagram and it feels like it's getting very toxic, especially here in Portugal. I follow accounts from all over the world, but since the second lockdown started here in Portugal, seems like all influencers became social media activists. And do I really have to see the same Instagram story 500 million times? Every time the government sets new measures, everyone has to repost it. You can stop it, if I want to be informed, I will not be doing it through an Instagram account I follow to see everyday outfits. I know that what I'm criticising is also what I'm doing with this post, but this blog is where I share my thoughts and I really needed to say this. This society where we are always judging, cancelling people just because they did some mistakes (we are all humans, we all make mistakes) and criticising people we don't really know will not take us anywhere. Everything will be alright, but if we're bringing more negativity into this world, it will take even longer. And that's it, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

My goal last year was to switch all my products to cruelty-free brands, and, obviously, this year I will do the same. Actually, I believe that one day all the brands that we use will be cruelty-free. I already shared some of my favourite brands with you, but today I'm focusing on haircare brands since it's what I find more difficult to find. If you know more brands, leave them on the comments below, I would love to try them out.

Mid/night

Buy: HERE

When I found out about Mid/night, I was immediately curious about their products. First, the whole aesthetic of the brand is to die for. Second, besides being cruelty-free, all their products are also vegan. They have a full hair care line, but I only tried the shampoo. It's a bit more liquid than usual, but it gets very foamy in the water, and the smell is amazing. It's recommended to all hair types, and I feel like my hair it's getting more volume than usual which is always a plus.

Gisou

Buy: HERE

I already talked about Gisou here on the blog a million times before, but I really had to mention the brand again because they are the best when it comes to hair styling products. This hair oil is the best I have ever used. The hair gets very shiny, and I feel like it really makes a huge difference in my hair. Actually, as you can see, my bottle is already empty, and I already have a new one on the way. It's really that good.

This post is here to tell you that I'm loving the blog's new schedule, I mean, the lack of it. As I've told you on THIS blog post, during the lockdown, I'm not going to post every single day, and I already started this week. I thought I might not enjoy it, or that I would get a bit lost and not take time from my day to write in here, but it was quite the opposite. I truly love this and I work really well under pressure, but I'm also loving this tranquillity. I write when I want to and when I actually have something to say and write about. I'm writing this blog post not because I feel like I have to, but because I really felt like doing it. I was strolling around all day (the last day I'm able to before lockdown 2.0), I took a shower, and I really felt like laying in bed with a warm tea next to me and write this words. And so this blog became a hobby again. And damn, it feels really good.

As I already told you over on my Instagram, my goal this year is to read 50 books. It's a lot, but let's see how it goes. The first one is done, and it was 'The Girls' by Emma Cline. I heard about it on the 'Prose Before Hoes' podcast (which I highly recommend if you like literature), and I thought I would really enjoy since the plot is something I'm very interested about. And I was totally right. 'The Girls' follows the life of Evie, a fourteen-year-old girl who's desperate to be noticed. She seems to be living a pretty normal life until she sees a group of girls in a park and the obsession begins. They are young, wild and free, but the truth is that they're part of a cult. So yeah, it's deeply inspired by the Manson cult and murders, but I loved it. I think we are all a bit morbidly fascinated by them, so it was very interesting to read how someone apparently normal joins a cult like that one. It's also a book with pretty cool imagery. I don't know if you understand what I mean, but it's one of those books that could easily be adapted into a movie. California, the late sixties, long skirts, long hair...you know? Something that I also really enjoyed about the book was how it tells two stories: one from when she was fourteen living all that drama, and another one about what is happening to her right now as an adult. This back and forth is something I usually don't enjoy about books, but this one is so well made that really made the book even better. So yeah, I highly recommend it. It was a good start.

Well, here in Portugal, after a couple of months of a bit of freedom, we're going through another lockdown. As always, I will try to keep the positive vibes up, but I had to write this post because they are going to be some changes here on the blog. Against the other lockdown, this time, the calendar of the blog will be a bit different. I'm not going to post every single day as usual. This blog lives of my outfits, that's what I truly love sharing with you, and since I'm not able to do it as I like it, I rather not do it at all. But this doesn't mean I'm going to stop posting at all. As I said on THIS blog post, creating content was something that really helped to go through lockdown, so I will keep doing it. I just don't want the pressure to create content every single day. This week I will write about the first book I read this year, and I have some news to tell you. So I will still be here, just in a different way. See you tomorrow or any other day.

I know I talk a lot about Instagram over here but it's a social media app where I share every single day, just like here on the blog, and it's normal if I do. The problem is that when we do something so often, sometimes, we end up trapped on a routine. I always used both platforms as a way to explore my creativity, and that's something I want to do even more this year.

I feel like Instagram is getting very boring. All the accounts are very alike, and all the content is very similar. I've been finding some accounts a bit different, and they have been very inspiring to me (I can share them with you if you want it). I created these photos for Instagram, and I liked them so much that I decided to share them here as well. So, summing up, this year I want to explore new ideas on Instagram. I will keep posting my outfits because it's something I still love to do, but I want to go beyond that.

I really love doing collages and I want to do it more, something similar to what I shared HERE over Christmas. I also want to explore scanning, it's an area I find very interesting and a new way to share other stuff with you, just like I did on NYE sharing with you some pages of a notebook of mine (you can see it HERE). I also want to explore my love for photography. I want to create photos a bit different (like the ones I'm sharing today), learn even more about analogue photography, and I also want to share simpler photos taken with my phone. Take what I usually do on Stories to my feed, I really like the simplicity of those photos. Last but not least, I've been enjoying Reels very much. I love creating small videos, very simple with not much edition, and this year you can expect even more of those videos. So if you want to see all this content, you just have to follow me on Instagram, if you're not doing it yet. And let me know if is there anything you would like to see me doing well.

Last year was pretty different from what we were expecting, and we still have a few hard months ahead. Here in my country, we're not in lockdown, just during the weekend, which already makes me calmer since I have more freedom during the week. But that doesn't mean it doesn't get hard sometimes. Today's blog post is about a few things that made those moments more bearable. A few things that made my life easier during the lockdown, and that still do. Share with me which were yours, I would love to know.

Going For Walks

Getting out of the house even if it's just for a few minutes, it really makes my day better. I love walking around town and maybe even grab a coffee to go at a coffee shop, or if I want a calmer place I just go to a nearby park. I'm very lucky because I have all these things in my area, and it makes life way easier.

Reading

I can't stress this enough, but reading really is a huge part of my routine and something that keeps me sane. Sometimes we need to switch off from reality, and I know it's really easy to do it on your phone or computer, but I think it's very important to not always be in front of a screen. If you're looking for some book recommendations, you can always check the 'Book Club' category here on the blog.

Creating Content

Once I got into the creating groove and got my inspiration back, creating content was a huge part of my routine and something that made me feel motivated throughout the lockdown months. And the good thing about this is that it's a process. You have to look for inspiration, you have to take the photos and then edit them. It takes time, and time was all we had.

The last book I read last year was High Fidelity by Nick Hornby and I loved it, I think it's even on my list of favourite books ever. I watched the TV show that came out last year based on this book, and since then that I was very curious about the book (also found out that there's also a movie about it). Actually, the book is very different, the first thing being that the narrator is a man and on the TV show the main character is a woman (interpreted beautifully by my girl crush Zöe Kravitz), but the story has some similarities. High Fidelity tells the story of Rob, a 35-year-old man who owns a record store in London. The book focuses a lot on his relationships, more specifically on their failure and through them, we can also get to know Rob on a different level. It´s a novel about rejection, masculinity and with a lot of music in the mix. Only when I finished the book, I found out that the writer is British, but thinking about it, makes all sense. His sense of humour (very British in my opinion) is very characteristic. I love this kind of sense of humour, but, obviously, is not for everyone. I highly recommend reading this book, as I've said before, one of my favourite books ever.

"What came first - the music or the misery?"

I was taking a look at the outfits I shared here in the last year, and I thought it would be fun to share my favourites. It's mindblowing how my style changed so much. It looks like there's a pre-quarantine, and a post-quarantine and the ones I like the most are the one's post. They're simpler, more minimalistic and, deep down, a bit more me. I chose my top 10 that you can see down below. I'm not going to choose a favourite because, honestly, I really love them all, but I would love to know if you have a favourite.

Digam-me, também têm conta no Goodreads? Digam-me nos comentários.

Two years ago by this time of the year I decided to start the new year with the goal of reading one book each month. At the time, I did it, I think I even read more, and since then that it became a habit, sometimes even an addiction. I started the year with no book to read (I finished one that I'm going to talk about this week and between all the Christmas mess I didn't buy a new one) and it was bad. Reading is part of my routine so I just didn't know what to do with myself. It's good to me and, without being able to explain why, reading became very important to me. I love to learn, to know new words and to get lost in another reality for a few hours. In 2020 I read 41 books, and this year I decided to set the goal to read 50. It's something that I keep up with writing on my cellphone notes or in my journal, but this year I decided to create a Goodreads account. I'm still a rookie, but you can find me HERE. I'll share my reads over there, but I will keep updating here as well, obviously. Tell me, are you also on Goodreads? Let me know on the comments below.
