Recebi este livro no Natal e, apesar de nunca ter ouvido falar dele, decidi dar-lhe uma chance. Chama-se Filhas de uma Nova Era e conta a história de quatro mulheres que vivem na cidade alemã de Hamburgo. Passa-se entre o fim da Primeira Guerra Mundial e acompanha a vida destas mulheres até ao fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Juntas acompanham a transformação do mundo, mas também passam pela chegada terrível da ocupação nazi e o fim das suas liberdades. Para ser sincera, não é o tipo de história que eu adore de ler. Sou da opinião de que devemos conhecer a história e perceber as coisas horrendas pelas quais milhares de pessoas passaram, mas ler é algo que faço para relaxar e me esquecer um pouco do mundo e, por vezes, é difícil para mim ler sobre esta época da nossa história. Também achei o livro um pouco difícil de acompanhar no início, existem muitas personagens com as quais nos temos de familiarizar. Mas, com isto dito, este livro faz parte de uma trilogia e fiquei com muita curiosidade de ler os seguintes. É, sem dúvida, uma história cativante.
I got this book for Christmas and, even though I've never heard anything about it, I decided to give it a go. It's called Daughters of a New Time (I couldn't find an English translation) and it tells the story of four women who live in the city of Hamburg. It happens between the end of the First World War and follows the lives of these women until the end of the Second World War. Together they follow the transformation of the world but also the terrible arrival of the nazi occupation and the end of their freedom. To be honest with you, I'm not a huge fan of reading about this topic. I obviously think that we should know the history and understand the horrible things millions of people went through, but reading is something I do to relax and forget about the world for a while so sometimes it's a bit hard for me to read about this time in history. I also found the book a bit hard to keep up in the beginning, there were too many characters to familiarize with. But, with that being said, the book is the first part of a trilogy and I'm very curious to read the other two. It definitely is a captivating story.
