Mais um clássico que posso riscar da minha lista: O Diário de Anne Frank. Daqui a uns meses, se tudo correr bem, vou a Amesterdão e, visto que vou visitar a casa dela e nunca tinha lido este livro, decidi juntá-lo à minha lista de leitura. Tenho a certeza que estão familiarizados com a história, mas, Anne Frank, uma jovem judia, expressa os seus pensamentos no seu diário durante um período de dois anos durante o qual a sua família e amigos estão a viver escondidos, enquanto decorre a Segunda Guerra Mundial e o Holocausto. Apesar do desfecho trágico, achei incrível como ela nunca perdeu a esperança. A minha expectativa era ler sobre uma jovem rapariga em sofrimento enquanto viveu no famoso ensonderijo, mas, em vez disso, conheci uma rapariga inteligente e perspicaz, sempre muito esperançosa e, com apenas treze anos, com uma escrita incrível. É bastante triste ver alguém com tanto potencial e paixão pela vida e, no fim, não conseguir alcançar os seus sonhos e ver o seu trabalho publicado. É, sem dúvida, um livro que todos deviam ler. Conta uma história real que tem de ser contada vezes e vezes sem conta e o Holocausto é algo que nunca devemos esquecer.
Another classic that I can take off from my list: The Diary of a Young Girl. In a couple of months, hopefully, I will go to Amsterdam and, since I'm visiting her house and I've never read this book before, I decided to add it to my reading list. I'm sure you're all familiar with this story, but in this diary, Anne Frank, a Jewish young girl, expresses her thoughts over a two year period during which her family and friends are hiding during World War II and the Holocaust. Despite the tragic ending, it impressed me how she never lost hope. I was expecting to read about a young girl suffering while hiding, but instead, I got to know a smart and strong-minded girl who was always hopeful and, with only thirteen, wrote beautifully. It's really sad to see someone with so much potential and passion for life, and in the end, never made it to accomplish her dreams or see her work published. It's a book that everyone should read. It tells a real story that needs to be told over and over again, and the Holocaust is something we should never forget.
