Este livro, o 'The Coral Sea' foi um agradável surpresa. Como sabem, o meu livro favorito é o Apenas Miúdos da Patti Smith e já li toda a sua obra (ou pelo menos, eu achava). Encontrei este livro numa livraria em Paris e, confesso, que não sabia da sua existência. Mas, como é óbvio, trouxe-o logo comigo. Tal como o meu livro favorito da autora, o tema/personagem principal neste livro é o Robert Mapplethorpe, mas a diferença é que este livro é uma elegia na forma de um conjunto de poemas. É sobre luto, mas também é sobre amor. A vida dos dois como casal/amantes/soulmates sempre foi bastante fascinante para mim, por isso, como podem imaginar, adorei ler este livro. Ter este livro nas mãos é como estar a pegar numa obra de arte. É tão bonito. Os poemas, as suas palavras misturadas com páginas com fotografias tiradas por ambos, é mesmo muito comovente e inspirador. A Patti nunca desaponta. Acho que ter lido o Apenas Miúdos antes, também me ajudou bastante a perceber algumas referências deste livro, por isso também recomendo fazerem isso se estiverem a pensar ler o The Coral Sea. Tenho a certeza que vou ler este livro novamente muito em breve e que vai ser daqueles livros que de vez em quando vou redescobrir. Não acho que seja um livro para toda a gente, mas se gostarem de poesia acho que vão gostar bastante. Se forem fãs da Patti Smith, então vão amar.
The book I'm going to talk about today, The Coral Sea, was a pleasant surprise. As you probably already know, Just Kids by Patti Smith is one of my favourites and I like her so much that I already read all the books she wrote (or so I thought). I found this book in a bookstore in Paris, and I didn't know this book even existed. Obviously, I brought it with me. Just like my favourite book by her, the main topic is Robert Mapplethorpe, but this one is an elegy in the form of a collection of poems. It's about grief but also about love. Their life together as lovers/partners/soulmates was always very fascinating to me so I loved reading this book. Holding this almost feels like you are holding a piece of art. It's just so beautiful. Her poems, her words intercepted with a selection of his photographs. Deeply moving and so inspiring. Patti never misses. I actually think having read Just Kids before was really helpful to understand some references in this book, so I highly recommend reading it before this one. I know that I will be reading this again very soon and it will be a book that I will come back to very often. I don't think is a book for everyone but if you are into poetry I'm sure you will like it. If you are a fan of Patti Smith, then you are going to love it.
