Como sabem, o José Saramago é dos meus escritores favoritos. Até o mencionei NESTE post onde partilhei com vocês o meu top 3 de escritores favoritos. Como tal, tenho lido bastantes dos seus livros e o último foi 'A Viagem do Elefante'. E, apesar de ter vindo a dizer apenas coisas boas dos seus livros que tenho lido nos últimos tempos, este dececionou-me. Como o título indica, esta obra conta a história da viagem de um elefante, Solimão, oferecido pelo rei D.João III ao arquiduque Maximiliano da Áustria. Esta oferta foi algo que realmente aconteceu e a imaginação do escritor dá vida a esta viagem de uma forma fantástica. No entanto, comparando com os outros livros do escritor, achei a narrativa da história um pouco aborrecida. Não é Saramago no seu melhor. No entanto, a sua escrita é sempre fantástica e, apenas por essa razão acabei este livro, pois a história em si não achei interessante. Para ser sincera, nunca pensei escrever uma crítica negativa a um livro do Saramago, talvez precise de o voltar a ler para realmente o compreender, mas esta é a minha opinião neste momento. As you know, José Saramago is one of my favourite writers. I even mention him in THIS post where I shared with you my top 3 of favourite writers. So I have been digging into his work, I´m trying to read all his books and the last one was 'The Elephant's Journey'. And, even though I usually love his book sand only write good things about them, this one I found a bit disappointing. The title says it all, this book tells the story of an elephant´s journey, Solimão, given as a gift from King João III of Portugal to Archduke Maximilian of Vienna. It´s based on a true event in history and the writer's imagination just brought it to life. However, compared to his other books, I found it a bit boring. It's not Saramago as his best. However, the writing is amazing and for that reason, I finished the book since I didn´t find the story itself very interesting. To be honest, it pains me a bit to be writing a negative review on a Saramago's book, maybe I need to read it again to really understand it, but this is my honest opinion right now.
