Depois de ler alguns livros de ficção, já estava a precisar de ler um livro de memórias. Comecei então o 'Everybody Died, So I Got a Dog' da Emily Dean. Só o título já achei bastante chamativo e, depois de o ler, percebi que resume o livro na perfeição (apesar de achar que é mais sobre toda a gente morrer do que sobre o próprio cão, mas dá para perceber porquê). A primeira parte do livro é sobre a sua infância. Sobre a sua família nada convencional, toda a dinânica em que estavam envolvidos e de como nunca seriam a típica família perfeita que tem um cão. A segunda parte é a parte triste. É a parte do 'Everybody Died'. É a parte que vos vai fazer chorar (na verdade, eu não chorei, mas apenas porque li esta parte num transporte público e não queria passar essa vergonha, mas tive de me conter). A última parte é parte em que ela, finalmente, adopta um cão. Infelizmente, é também a parte mais curta, mas vai-vos fazer sorrir e ter esperança. Algumas pessoas descrevem este livro como uma obra super engraçada, mas eu discordo completamente. No meu ver, é um livro super triste com alguns momentos engraçados. Não comecem este livro a pensar que vai ser uma leitura simples e fácil, porque não o é. Toca em temas como perda e luto e é brutamente honesto. Mas a escrita dela é lindíssima. Gostei mesmo muito do livro e super que recomendo.
After reading a few fiction books I wanted to start a memoir so I chose 'Everybody Died, So I Got a Dog' by Emily Dean. The title is already very eye-catching and, after reading it, sums up the book perfectly (even though I felt it was more about everybody dying than the dog but it's quite understandable). The first part is about her childhood. About her unconventional family dynamic and how they were never the perfect family who had a dog. The second part is the sad part. It's the 'Everybody Died' part. It's the part that will make you cry (I actually didn't because I was on the subway when I read this part but I was definitely holding up my tears). The last part is when she got the dog. Unfortunately, it's the smallest part but will make you smile after all the terrible things you read and feel hopeful. Some people say it's a funny book but I totally disagree. Yeah, some comments will make you laugh but don't start this book thinking it's going to be a light and easy read because it's not. It deals with loss and grief and it's brutally honest. Her writing is really beautiful as well. I really enjoyed it, and totally recommend it.
