Para ser sincera, nem sei por onde começar. Quando partilhei no Instagram que estava a ler este livo, A Little Life da Hanya Yanagihara, muitos de vocês enviaram mensagem a dizer que não ia ser fácil e até a desejar-me boa sorte. Este livro segue a vida de quatro amigos (Willem, JB, Malcolm e Jude) que, após se formarem, se mudam para Nova Iorque. Tudo parece bastante normal, até ficarmos a conhecer mais da história de Jude que acaba por ser o centro de toda a história. Para resumir, durante a sua infância, ele passa por abandono, violência, abuso físico e emocional, prostituição forçada e trauma psicológico. E a escritora não nos poupa a nada quando revela tudo isto, todos os detalhes são nos contados. É uma história horrível. Sem dúvida, o livro mais devastador que já li até hoje, mas adorei. Não sei o que isto diz sobre mim, mas não conseguia parar de ler. Claro que por vezes o que estava a ler era tão gráfico e horrível que tinha de parar um pouco e fazer outras coisas, mas a vontade de continuar a ler e saber o que acontece com estas personagens acabava sempre por aparecer novamente. É um livro com muitos trigger warnings, por isso não o recomendo a qualquer pessoa. É uma viagem bastante difícil e, sem dúvida, que não é para qualquer um. Como li algures alguém dizer: "É um livro excelente, talvez até perfeito, mas não o recomendo a ninguém." Claro que isto é um pouco trágico de dizer, mas percebo perfeitamente. Eu adorei, sei que o vou ler novamente no futuro, mas leiam-no por vossa própria conta em risco.

When I posted on my Instagram that I was reading this book, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, all of you warned me that it was going to be a rollercoaster and some of you even wished me good luck. This book follows the lives of four friends (Willem, JB, Malcolm and Jude) who move to New York after graduation. This sounds pretty average and normal until you find out more about Jude's backstory who ends up being the centre of the story. To sum up his life, he goes through abandonment, violence, physical and emotional abuse, forced prostitution and psychological trauma. And the writer spares us no mercy when revealing all of this. It's a horrible story. It's by far the most devastating book I have ever read, but I loved it. I don't know what that says about me, but I couldn't stop reading it. Yeah, sometimes the things being told were so graphic and so horrible that I had to put it down for a while and do something else, but then I found myself wanting to read it again, wanting to know what's going to happen with these characters. It's a book with a lot of trigger warnings so I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. It's such a difficult journey that I can't suggest everyone take it. Like I read someone saying: "This is an excellent, maybe perfect book, and I will not recommend it to anyone". It's a bit too much to say this, but I totally get it. I loved it, I know I will read it again in the future, but read it at your own risk.
