Comecei a ouvir um novo podcast sobre literatura (chama-se Livra-te para quem tiver curiosidade) onde falaram muito bem deste livro. Já estava convencida, mas quando soube que uma parte da história se passa em Ischia, uma ilha italiana onde já passei férias de Verão, comprei-o imediatamente. O livro chama-se 'A Amiga Genial' e é o primeiro livro de uma tetralogia da Elena Ferrante. Nunca tinha lido nada desta escritora, mas surpreendeu-me bastante. 'A Amiga Genial' conta a história de duas crianças, Elena e Lila, que vivem num pequeno bairro nos arredores de Nápoles. É sobre a sua amizade, mas também a sua rivalidade. É sobre laços humanos e como o sítio onde crescemos pode influenciar a pessoa em que nos tornamos. No fundo, é uma história simples, mas foi a escrita que realmente me cativou. A Elena escreve de uma forma que nos leva para o sítio e momento da história sobre o qual ela está a escrever. A Elena cria um universo de personagens que vivem no bairro que nos faz sentir como se lá também vivêssemos. É mesmo muito bom. Preciso do próximo volume. Acho que não preciso de dizer mais nada.
I started listening to a podcast about literature (it's called Livra-te if you're curious about it) where they talked only good things about this book. I was already convinced but when I found out that a part of the story happens in Ischia, an Italian island where I spent my summer vacation a while ago, I bought it immediately. The book is called 'My Brilliant Friend' and it's the first book of a tetralogy by Elena Ferrante. I've never read anything by this writer but I was fascinated. My Brilliant Friend tells the story of two young girls, Elena and Lila, who live in a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Naples. It's about their friendship but also about their rivalry. It's about human bonds but also how the place we grow up in can influence the person we become. Deep down, it's a simple story but it was the writting that really fascinated me. Elena writes in a way that really takes you to the place and moment she's writing about. She creates a universe of characters who live in the neighbourhood that makes you feel like you live there as well. It's really good. I need the next chapter asap. I don't think I need to say anything else.
