E posso tirar mais um livro da lista dos livros do Saramago para ler. Desta vez, li o Levantado do Chão, um romance que segue a vida da família Mau-Tempo, enquanto outros eventos nacionais e internacionais acontecem no pano de fundo. Mau-Tempo, uma família pobre, era constituída por trabalhadores rurais, explorados, por diversas vezes passaram fome, e também por diversas vezes passaram pelas prisões da PIDE. A história passa-se no Alentejo e, enquanto mostra o movimento antifascista que acontecia na região, mostra também muito bem as opiniões políticas de Saramago (que nunca escondeu ser comunista). Gostei bastante do livro, pois apesar de retratar toda a miséria que havia na altura, soa também a homenagem a todas essas pessoas. No entanto, foi, talvez, dos livros do autor mais difíceis de ler para mim. O romance segue três gerações da família e todos eles têm características muito semelhantes, o que, por vezes, me fez perder no meio de todas as personagens. Não é o meu favorito, mas fez-me sentir bastante sortuda por poder ler Saramago na sua versão original.
And I can take another book off from the list of Saramago's books to read. This time I decided to read Raised From The Ground, a novel the follows the lives of the Mau-Tempo family as national and international events happen in the background. Mau-Tempo were a poor family, rural workers, explored, a lot of times living with hunger, and a lot of times spending time in prison for trying to change that. Set in Alentejo, a southern province of Portugal, it shows the antifascist movement in Alentejo, and it really showcases Saramago's political views (he never hide he was communist). I really liked the book, because even though showcases misery, it sounds like a homage to all those people. However, it was probably the hardest book of the author to read because sometimes it was a bit confusing. The novel follows three generations of this family, and they all have quite the same characteristics, and sometimes I found myself a bit lost between all the characters. It's not my favourite, but it made me realize how fortunate I am for being able to read such an amazing writer in his original form.
