Ensaio sobre a Cegueira. Depois de ler dois livros do José Saramago, pedi-vos recomendações de mais livros deste autor e este foi dos mais recomendados por vocês e, após a sua leitura, consigo perceber porquê. Lembro-me de há alguns anos atrás ter visto o filme que fizeram com base neste livro, por isso, a história não foi uma enorme novidade, no entanto, já não me lembrava de vários detalhes, e achei o livro bem mais gráfico que o filme. É mesmo daquelas obras que nos deixam sem palavras. O 'Ensaio sobre a Cegueira' conta então a história de uma cidade que é atingida por uma epidemia de cegueira, e, sem nos apercebermos, estamos mergulhados num mundo horrível de violência, ódio e desespero. Acho que, no fundo, é uma história sobre a condição humana e sobre as virtudes e vícios que definem a nossa vida. Ler esta história, nesta altura, em que vivemos também uma epidemia, acho que tornou o livro ainda mais impactante, faz-nos mesmo questionar a forma como vivemos. Se leram este livro, adorava saber o que acharam, pois é daquelas histórias que pode ter várias interpretações. Se não o fizeram, então adicionem já à vossa lista de leitura, recomendo mesmo muito.
Blindness. After reading a few books by José Saramago, I asked you for more recommendations by this author, and this one was the book you recommended the most and, after reading it, I can understand why. I remember watching the film based on this book a couple of years ago, so the story wasn't a complete surprise, however, I didn't remind a lot of details, and the book is way more graphic. 'Blindness' tells the story of a blindness plague that hits a city and, before we know, we're immersed in a horrifying world of violence, hate and hopelessness. I think that deep down it's a story about our human condition, and about the virtues and vices that define human nature. Reading this book during this time, when we're actually living a pandemic, makes it even more powerful and brutal, and really make us questioned the way we live. If you read this book, please tell me what you think about you, because it's one of those stories each one of us can interpret in different ways. If you haven't, please add it to your reading list, I highly recommend it.
