Comprar roupa com boa qualidade também é um acto que nos leva a viver um estilo de vida mais sustentável, pois com a qualidade vem também a durabilidade. Por isso, aqui estão três dicas para porem em prática da próxima vez que quiserem comprar algo.
Buying less and better. This has been my motto these last couple of months, and I learnt a lot on how to identify high-quality clothing, and that's exactly what I'm going to share with you today. Buying high-quality clothes is also an act that leads us to live a more sustainable life because good quality means it will last longer. So here are three tips for you to follow next time you want to buy something.
1. Check The Label
O primeiro passo é ver a etiqueta onde podem encontrar toda a informação sobre a peça que querem comprar, incluindo o material de que é feita. Uma peça de boa qualidade provem de fibras naturais, como por exemplo o algodão, linho, lã e seda. Já deixei de comprar várias peças por serem feitas de fibras sintéticas, que além de terem menos qualidade, são também mais prejudicais para o ambiente.
The first step is to check the label where you can find all the information about the piece of clothing you want to buy, and this includes the material the piece is made out of. A high-quality piece is made out of 100% natural fibres, like cotton, linen, wool or silk. I actually ended up not buying something because it was made out of synthetic fibres. Besides having less quality, this kind of fibres are also very harmful to the environment.
2. See Where Is Made
Outra coisa que podem encontrar na etiqueta da peça é onde foi feita. Peças feitas em países em desenvolvimento é muito provável que tenham sido feitas através de exploração de mão-de-obra, o que é algo que não quero de todo apoiar. Para ficarem a saber mais sobre este assunto, recomendo vivamente a verem o documentário 'The True Cost'.
Something that you can also find on the label is where the piece of clothing was made. Products made in developing countries may be more likely to have used exploitative labour, which is something I don't really want to support. To know more about this, I really recommend you to watch the documentary 'The True Cost', it really changed the way I shop.
3. Look At The Construction
A qualidade da construção depende de como foram as diferentes peças de tecido foram cosidas. Olhem para as costuras e vejam se são uniformes, bem espaçadas e planas aos tecido. Não se esqueçam também de sentir o tecido. Roupa com boa qualidade vai ser suave e macia na pele.
The quality of construction depends on how well the fabric pieces are stitched together. Look at the seams and check if the stitches are even, closely spaced, and lying flat on the fabric. Also, feel the fabric. Good quality clothes will feel smooth and soft on the skin.
