Depois do post com a Marta sobre comprar em lojas vintage (que podem ler AQUI), achei que estava na hora de aprofundar o tema da sustentabilidade na indústria na moda. Gostei bastante do formato de ter um convidado e, para este tema, ninguém melhor que a Maria Galvão de Sousa para nos dar algumas dicas de como sermos mais sustentáveis nas nossas escolhas. Aqui estão então três dicas da Maria.
After the post with Marta about shopping at vintage stores (that you can read HERE), I thought it was time to talk a bit more about sustainability in the fashion industry. I really liked having a guest and, for this subject, no one better than Maria Galvão de Sousa to gives us some tips on how to be more sustainable. So here are three tips.
Compra roupa que gostes e que vais ter no armário durante bastante tempo, ou que podes vender novamente porque são peças fantásticas. Compra roupa que seja intemporal e não apenas porque está na moda. Compra em marcas pequenas, apoia jovens talentos e dá-lhe a oportunidade de continuarem a produzir peças incríveis. Compra em segunda-mão ou vintage, as peças mais sustentáveis são aquelas que já existem.
Buy clothes you love and that you will keep for long or that you can resell because they're so great. Buy clothes because they will last and not because they're on-trend. Buy small brands, support young talents and give them an opportunity to continue to produce awesome garments. Buy second-hand or vintage, the most sustainable pieces are the ones that already exist.
Dá uma segunda vida às tuas roupas. Revende, dá a um amigo ou doa aquelas peças que já não usas ou que já não te servem. Recicla e reutiliza peças que já não uses. Pode tornar-se uma peça completamente diferente se a reciclares, como Lavoisier disse: "Na Natureza nada se cria, nada se perde, tudo se transforma".
Give a second life to your clothes. Resell, give to a friend or donate the ones you don't use anymore or no longer fit. Recycle and reuse the garments and pieces you don't use. They may become a new piece if recycled or a new product, as Lavoisier wisely said: "In nature, nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything changes".
3. Talk To Your Favourite Brands And Government Officials
Não estás contente com a forma como a tua marca favorita produz as suas colecções? Não há leis suficientes no teus país para proteger os trabalhadores da indústria da moda? Manifesta-o, fá-los perceber isso. Fala com as tuas marcas favoritas, explica o teu lado e tenta mudar isso. Fala também com os oficiais do governo, envia uma carta e diz o que não está bem. Faz-te ouvir e faz a diferença.
Not happy with the way your favourite brand is producing their collections? There are not enough regulations to protect the fashion workers from your country? Manifest it, take them accountable. Talk with your favourite brands, explain them your side and why you're not happy, try to make them change. Also, same for government officials, send them a letter and tell them what you think it's not right. Make yourself heard and make a change.
