I promised you to bring more posts to the 'travel' category and I also told you that was going to start doing more posts about Porto. It's the city that I've been calling home for a long time now and I already know (almost) all the secrets about it. So if you're thinking about visiting Porto, this post is for you. Today I'm sharing with you five things that you really can miss in Porto!
1. Visit S.Bento railway station
Quando vives aqui quase que te esqueces o quão bonita esta estação é, mas, sem dúvida, que a estação de S.Bento é um lugar a não perder no Porto. Vais encontrar imensas pessoas a fotografar as paredes, mas garanto-te que vais querer fazer o mesmo, os azulejos que as cobrem são lindíssimos.
When you live here you almost forget how beautiful this station is, but S.Bento station definitely is a place you can't miss if you're visiting Porto. You will find loads of people photographing the walls and I guarantee you that you will want to do the same, the tiles that cover them are beautiful.
2. Shop at Flores street
Quem conheceu a Rua das Flores há os anos atrás, não vai reconhecer esta rua. Está completamente diferente do que era, mas no bom sentido. O que costumava ser uma rua praticamente abandonada, tornou-se numa rua cheia de vida com imensos cafés e lojas de comércio local. Perde-te pelas diferentes lojas que, apesar de pequeninas, têm peças muito interessantes.
Who knew Flores street some years ago, it will not recognize it. It's completely different from what it was but in a good way. What used to be an abandoned street is now a street full of life with several different cafés and local stores. Get lost on the different stores that although being small, you can find some really interesting pieces.
3. Have a coffee at Majestic cafe
Podes esperar por uma fila à porta, mas, de qualquer das formas, vale a pena esperar para conhecer o café Majestic e tomar um café expresso. A arquitectura do café é lindíssima e podes sentir que é um café com imensa história, por onde já passaram personalidades e artistas importantes do nosso país.
You can expect a queue outside, but it's worth the wait to visit Majestic cafe and have an expresso. The architecture is gorgeous and you can feel that is a cafe with loads of history where some important Portuguese artists spent their days back in the day.
4. Stroll around Santa Catarina street
É talvez das ruas mais movimentadas do Porto, porque também é um dos pontos de comércio. Podes encontrar as lojas de fast fashion, mas também algumas de comércio local. Deixa-te perder e observa os edifícios à tua volta.
It's probably one of the busiest streets in Porto because it's also a commercial point. You can find all the fast fashion stores, but also some local stores. Get lost and take a look around all the beautiful buildings.
5. Eat a Francesinha
E, por fim, não podes sair do Porto sem comer uma francesinha. A famosa sanduíche tornou-se uma das imagens de marca do Porto e, quando a estiveres a comer, vais perceber porquê. Eu sou fã e os melhores sítios são o Café Santiago, o Capa Negra e a Alicantina.
And you cannot leave Porto without eating a francesinha. The famous sandwich is already an icon of Porto and once you start eating one you will understand why. I love it and the best places to have it is at Café Santiago, Capa Negra and Alicantina.
